Here within the Parish of Putney, we like to think that we have something for everyone. The menu to the right is a list of the different groups within the parish. This section of the website is still under construction, but please come back soon to view in detail what each group offers and how you can join in.

Sunday School

- St Mary's church runs a Sunday School catering for children from pre-school to Year 9. They are run by volunteers on a rota basis. A guideline curriculum is provided, as are materials for arts and crafts as well as audio-visual aids and books.
- Training is provided on a regular basis. We are always looking for volunteers.

St Mary's Playgroup

- The St Mary’s Playgroup meets every Tuesday during term-time between 10.00 and 11.00am at St Mary’s Church. The Playgroup is suitable for babies and toddlers. Have a coffee and join in the fun and singing.

Godly Play

- Imagine a peaceful, calm place where you are surrounded by objects and images both familiar and intriguing; a place where you know what is going to happen and are reassured, but also know there might be fresh surprises and new ways to see things; where there will be time for wondering, thinking, working with your own thoughts; where there will be no pressure to produce or perform, only to be open and ready. This is Godly Play. It is a way of exploring the stories from the Judao-Christian tradition by hearing a story using beautifully crafted objects; responding to the story with open questions and discussion; further exploration through a choice of art, quiet reflection, play, model building, writing, reading; concluding with a simple “feast” to promote sharing and community. Godly play has been influenced by the Montessori tradition of education. It is now an established and recognised method of teaching underpinned by academic research and used in churches and schools across the UK, Europe and the USA. It is integrated into the Parish of Putney Sunday Schools curriculum and children experience the room at least twice a term. The classroom is used by local schools to enhance their provision of RE and to help promote the Spiritual, Moral, Cultural and Social development of children required by the National Curriculum.
- GODLY PLAY IN PUTNEY: St. Mary’s Church, Putney High street has a fully equipped Godly Play classroom which is available for:
- • use by groups of children from schools and churches (up to 20 people).
- • Groups or individuals who wish to see a demonstration of Godly Play.
- • Insight days in to Godly Play method for teachers and FE students and teaching staff.
- • INSET days
- • Godly Play training
- We can provide Godly Play trained teachers with a wide experience of working with children (CRB checked) to run your session.

Theology in the Pub

- This is an informal group for people in the Parish who are interested in socialising and chatting about what it means to be Christian whilst living and working in London.  We meet weekly in the Bricklayer’s Arms at 7.30pm.

- We are a small team of five ‘arrangers’ but are keen to have additional helpers. You could do something as simple as watering mid-week, removing deadheads or working alongside one of us to learn the ropes.

Bible Study Group

- The daytime Bible Study Groups each meet every two weeks in term-time only. The format is to follow a book which focuses either on a particular book of the Bible, or on a Biblical theme. We welcome people of all ages and from both churches.

St Mary's Choir

- We meet for a rehearsal on Tuesday evening from 8-9pm at St Mary's (entry via the side door if the cafe door is not open) and all are welcome regardless of experience. We sing a wide repertoire and participate at morning/caritas services on a rotational basis. There are also social events that happen on a reasonably regular basis!
